Lot Essay

This drawing can be related to another gouache by Schiele dated circa 1905 (Kallir D.49), entitled View from the Drawing Classroom, Klosterneuburg. Schiele studied at the school of Klosterneuburg under Professor L.K. Strauch, who recognised the young artist's skills and encouraged him to pursue his studies in Vienna. In 1906, Schiele departed from Klosterneuburg and arrived in Vienna, where he had been accepted at the Academy.
