Wanda de Guébriant has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

This work has a very prestigious provenance. It was acquired by the British collector Frank Stoop, who formed an important collection of modern paintings during the 1920s. As a longstanding supporter of Tate Gallery's aspirations through the Contemporary Art Society, he generously made a gift and bequest of his whole collection to the museum in 1933. This included works by Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Amedeo Modigliani, which formed the core of the Tate's collection of European modern art.
