Lot Essay

The same 'amphora' foot features on Gillow's 1811 sketch for a low wardrobe at Tatton Park, Cheshire, for which the Gillows craftsman T. Dixon also supplied furniture (see N. Goodison and J. Hardy, 'Gillows at Tatton Park', Furniture History, 1970, pls. 10a, 11a and pp. 14, 15). Another related Gillows chest signed by T. Dixon of about 1815 was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 14 September 2000, lot 158 (£3,290).

Thomas Tasker is recorded as a cabinet-maker in Gillows Estimate Sketch Book between circa 1815-1825.
