This robust bergere, with Grecian lyre-scrolled frame enriched with reeds and sunflowered paterae, relates to rosewood library 'easy chairs' supplied by Gillows in 1813 for Hackwood Park, Hampshire. A pair of these chairs by Gillows was sold in the Hackwood Park house sale, Christie's, 20 April 1998, lot 55.
