These chairs, with their decorative tablets and pierced guilloche backs can be related to a suite of cream-painted and parcel-gilt furniture sold by Lieutenant-Colonel Stephen Cave, OBE, Christie's, London, 17 November 1988, lot 50 (£126,500). The suite was subsequently in Partridge Fine Art's Summer Exhibition of 1989 (Catalogue, no. 26).
