The first Duke of Decazes was Elie Decazes who was Prime Minister of France from 1819 to 1820. Since then members of this distinguished and noble French family have remained prominent figures in the country's political circles, and also in its sporting fields. The 3rd Duke was an Olympic sailor. The 4th Duke of Decazes owned the successful racehorse stud 'Haras d'Ouilly', for which the family has been most recently famed.
In the 1950's Comte and Edouard Decazes assembled a fine collection of mainly 18th century furniture and works of art. This collection was sold at Christie's, Paris, on 16 November 2006 and realized 1,655,106 Euros.
