Lot Essay

The card-table has many features particular to 18th century Irish furniture including the waved apron, the extended scroll at the top of the leg and the squared lion's paw foot. It's legs also feature a bulging muscle or 'hock' just above the foot. A similar table was in the collection of the Earls of Huntingdon, Sharavogue, Co. Offaly and sold by a descendant of that family, The Lady Selina Hastings, Christie's, London, 23 April 1998, lot 109.
