Lot Essay

A particularly interesting feature of this mechanical cabinet is the brass-inlaid decoration of the uprights which represents baluster vases with tulips. A related console table with virtually identical brass-inlaid decoration was sold anonymously, Sotheby's, London, 5 July 2006, lot 208. The lifting panel at the back of this cabinet, revealing two secret hinged shelves, is also particularly noteworthy. A related console table with a comparable mechanical lifting panel was offered anonymously, Sotheby's, London, 5 July 2006, lot 206.
