Each with a vase-shaped nozzle cast with tracery above a trellis-cast stem, the circular spreading base decorated conformingly, each stamped with Cyrillic caracters 'MPP'

Lot Essay

With their finely chased tracery associated with tooled stems, these candlesticks demonstrate the quality and originality of ormolu in Russia in the early 19th Century. They relate to a candlestick illustrated in I. Sychev, The Russian Chandeliers. 1760-1830, Moscow, 2003, no.956-957. An identical mark appears on a related ormolu candlestick, illustrated in I. Sychev, op. cit., no.954.
