Black, Starr & Frost, circa 1909
in the form of a two-handled crater vase, with a simple turned base rising up to the waist decorated with chased ancanthus leaves adorning the lower body, and a pair of decorated up-swept handles, attaching just below the outurned lip. Engraved on the body; "New York Yacht Club/The Cruise/First Prize/Won By/AURORA/August 10 to 12, 1909".

Lot Essay

The Aurora was built by Herreshoff Mfg. Co. of Bristol, Rhode Island in 1907 for Cornelius Vanderbilt. She was cutter rigged and had principal dimensions of 85'-3" LOA, 16'-7" Beam, 10'-10" and 49 gross tons. She was the winner of the Kings Cup in 1910.
