Lot Essay

Isaac Webb of New York designed and built the schooner Dream in 1832 for a New York yachtsman. In 1834, Boston's Robert Bennett Forbes purchased her for pleasure sailing with a party of men called the "Dream Club," which was the first organized yacht club east of Cape Cod. When not being used for this, she was a pilot schooner. She was sold to George L. Schuyler of New York in 1836 and she bacame a member of the charter fleet of the New York Yacht Club in 1844.
