Lot Essay

Elgood, like his contemporary Ernest Arthur Rowe (lot 156), was passionate about Italy. Both artists painted many well known British gardens, but some of their most atmospheric work comes from their time spent on the Continent.

For another work by the artist when he was in Florence see lot 144.
