Lot Essay

Strutt is best known for his sympathetic studies and drawings of animals. He studied at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris before travelling to Australia in 1850, returning to England in 1856. He also painted genre and religious scenes as well as portraits. He exhibited numerous times at the Royal Academy from 1865.
