Lot Essay

A member of both the Munro School and Thomas Girtin's sketching club 'The Brothers', Underwood was a chemist, geologist and draughtsman. He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy between 1789 and 1802 and in 1792 provided a Cornish subject for J. Britton's Beauties of England and Wales.
