GRAHAM OF THE SUPERB 1955 VINTAGE
Lying in Twickenham, Middlesex (EHD)
Graham--Vintage 1955
Bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd. Some slightly corroded capsules, Levels base of neck or better
Tasting Note: One of my all-time favourite ports. I have made nearly 30 notes since 1958, seven since 1990. A big wine that has evolved perfectly. A classic in 1991 bottled by Harvey's: mature but rosy-cheeked; glorious bouquet, a fabulous fragrance erupting out of its depths. Sweet, refined, silky, yet still tannic, fleshy but firm. Showing well at a Gidleigh Park port tasting in the mid-1990s, fragrant, almost ethereal, lovely texture. Most recently decanted at 6.20pm, fully mature; a light, spicy bouquet that opened up magnificently by 10.30. Still very sweet, delicious flavour, glorious length. Perfection. Dinner at home, Oct 1999 ***** M.B.
