A Japanese sectional bronze presentation vase, Meiji period
comprising a cylindrical middle section flanked by handles modelled as dragons below cloud scrolls, decorated in gold and silver with a lady amidst rockwork and floral sprays below butterflies, the reverse with an inscription reading 'One of three water vessels for the additional happiness of Monk Gentetsu and Ryokei, by previous monk of Ryukoin, Yutenrin', framed by two panelled borders enclosing figures engaged in various pursuits, rising to a flattened trumpet shaped mouth with hares leaping above waves, all supported on a tall stepped and tiered foot with bands including flowers, insects, crabs, snails, key-fret and other geometric patterns, the foot applied with oval cartouches with flowers, leaves and butterflies -- 20 13/16in. (52.8cm.) high.
