A Japanese satsuma koro and cover, 19th Century
the twin handles formed as karako boys surmounting the rim, the cover with large kneeling karako figure holding a fan, the four sided koro with shaped cartouches painted with sparrows amongst maple leaves, and flowering peony and landscape views surrounded by gilt flowerheads and decoration, raised on four slightly flared supports - 15 1/8in. (38.5cm.) high.
