A Masahiro Katana in Mounts
Edo period (17th century), signed Omi (no) kami Hojoji Tachibana Masahiro and with silver-inlaid inscription Futatsu do (kiri) and dated Ten'na ni inu kugatsu shien (second year of Ten'na [1682])
Sugata [configuration]: hon-zukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, shallow torii-zori
Kitae [forging pattern]: ko-itame with many jinie and delicate chikei
Hamon [tempering pattern]: suguha-gunome with ashi of copious nioi and nie with sunagashi overall and a bright nioiguchi
Boshi [tip]: ko-maru with a strong return with small amount of hakikakeru at the edge
Nakago [tang]: ubu, iriyama-gata with sujikai file marks and one hole
Habaki [collar]: double, gold
Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 76.3cm.
Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 3.2cm.
Sakihaba [width before tip]: 2.1cm.
Koshirae comprising an red-lacquer saya finished in ishime surface mounted with iron kojiri, kurikata and koiguchi inlaid with gold vines and snowflakes in hira-zogan; the fuchi-kashira and kabuto-jiri decorated to match; iron mokko tsuba with inome and carved with clouds in taka-bori, signed Sunagawa Masatoshi saku; iron and gold menuki iron formed as a tiger and dragon
With a certificate of registration designating this sword as the 34th Juyo Token (Important Sword) no. 8318 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated 1988.4.14
