Both decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt, the first depicting bijin in a pavilion; the second with plum blossom

Lot Essay

Inscribed on a silk moth-shaped cartouche sanga hachi zu [Eight Views of Silk Worms]. Presumably this dish is one of a series of eight depicting stages of sericulture. Young silk worms were said to resemble the shape of beautiful women's eyebrows.
