THE FIRST SIGNED GYOKUSHU AND IMPRESSED MARK TAIZAN, THE SECOND SIGNED HANKINZAN DO, MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)
Both decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt, the first with various shaped panels depicting musicians, a peacock beside a stream, entertainers and an artist whose painting has come alive, pierced silver cover and a vase with a panel depicting a lady playing a koto surrounded peonies and chrysanthemums

Taizan is the mark of the several generations of potters of tea bowls active in Awata of Kyoto since the late 17th century. The 8th generation succeeded the anme in the early 1860s, and the 9th generation worked until the middle Meiji era. He is said to have used clay brought from several regions of Japan.
