Each decorated in gold and silver nunomezogan, iroe-takazogan and silver framework in relief, with panels, one possibly depicting Minomoto no Yorimasa between roundels and geometric panels beneath band of grapevine to the shoulders

Komai Otojiro (1842-1917) of Kyoto originally made iron sword guards with gold inlay. After the prohibition of wearing swords in 1876 he turned the same technique to decorative pieces for export. His son Seibei (1883-1970) continued with the same high quality work.
