The visionaries who became the first Board of Govenors of the University were Chaim Weizmann, Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Martin Bauber, Chaim Nchman Bialik, Cyrus Adler, Judah Magnes, Ahad Ha'am and Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook. The vision of the University is to facilitate the training of new generations of scientists, philosophers, statesmen, teachers, agriculturalists and business entrepreneurs. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem was officially opened by Lord Balfour on 1st April 1925 and is now one of the leading research Universities in the world.
