Lot Essay

Van der Vossen attended the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Haarlem to become a designer and illustrator. In 1929 he started painting to reach geometrical abstraction around 1947. He participated in several group-exhibitions of the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris. Around 1955 his abstract works became more and more lyrical and in 1958 he returned to a figurative expressionism in the style of his friend Gerrit Benner.
