Das Landschaftsbild 'Lac de Géronde à Sierre' von Félix Vallotton ist im Jahre 1919 entstanden. In seinem Livre de raison lieferte der Künstler neben dem Bildtitel sogleich eine kleinere Beschreibung: 'Paysage lac de Geronde a Sierre eau verte, écrans de montagnes et coteau avec l'hospice de sourds muets'.
Der Blick des Betrachters wird durch das grüne Seewasser vom unteren Bildrand nach hinten geleitet. Im Gegensatz zum beruhigenden Element des Wassers steht das steinige Ufer auf der rechten Seite, welches wie ein Keil in das Wasser des Sees vorstösst. Ein solcher Gegensatz findet sich auch zwischen der ungestörten Natur des Vordergrundes und dem Kloster auf dem Rebberg im Mittelgrund. Das heute noch von Benediktinerinnen bewohnte Kloster Géronde war vom Mittelalter an Wirkungsort verschiedener geistlicher Orden und Institutionen. Eine ganz andere Funktion wurde dem Kloster zwischen den Jahren 1893-1929 zuteil, in denen es als Institut für Taubstumme diente.

In his ‚Livre de raion the artist added a little description next to its title: 'Paysage lac de Geronde a Sierre eau verte, écrans de montagnes et coteau avec l'hospice de sourds muets'. From the lower edge of the painting the gaze of the beholder is led over the green water of the lake to the back. The calming element of the water is contrasted with the rocky shore to the right, which juts out like a wedge into the waters of the lake. A similar contrast is represented by the untouched nature in the foreground and the monastery situated on a vineyard in the middle ground. During the Middle Ages the monastery Géronde - to this day inhabited by Benedictine monks - was home to various religious orders and institutions. A totally different function was bestowed upon the monastery in the years 1893-1929, when it served as an institute for deaf-mute people.
