A Method to multiply or divide any Number of Figures by a Like or Less Number, so expeditely, that any Fifty Figures may either be multiplied or divided by any Fifty Figures, All in One Line, in Five Minutes Time. London: for the author, 1750. 2° (378 x 231mm). 2 folding printed tables, with the final subscribers leaf (small hole in last leaf, title and last page lightly browned). Later 18th-century boards (crudely rebacked, extremities worn).
VERY RARE, the copy sold at Sotheby's in February 1981 being described as 'apparently unrecorded', somewhat at variance with the 172 copies mentioned in the list of subscribers (including Richard Mead, the Earl of Chesterfield, James Oglethorpe, Governor of Georgia, and William Pitt the Elder). The precocious author has appended a 2pp. dedication to George II and a 2pp. 'Address to his Subscribers'. This copy possibly lacks 2 tables. ESTC 153554 (locating 4 copies).
