A most Copious Spanish Dictionarie]. London: [W. Stansby and M. Bradwood] at the charges of J. Minsheu, 1617. 2 parts in one volume, 2° (382 x 250mm). (Lacks \Kp\k3 in part 2, probably blank, short tears in A1 and Tt1 in part 1, browned and stained to a greater or lesser extent throughout). Contemporary calf (rebacked, slightly worn). Provenance: John Jackson of Warrington (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of this huge undertaking based on the examination of eleven languages. It caused the author, already in debt, to sell copies by subscription -- making it probably the first book to be sold this way in England. Some copies contain a leaf entitled 'A catalogue and true note of the names of such persons which ... have receaved the Etymologicall dictionary'. This exists in ten versions, eventually recording upwards of 400 subscribers. STC 17944 (issue with imprint on sub-title left blank). (2)
