(Lacks \Kp\k3 in part 2, probably blank, short tears in A1 and Tt1 in part 1, browned and stained to a greater or lesser extent throughout). Contemporary calf (rebacked, slightly worn). Provenance: John Jackson of Warrington (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of this huge undertaking based on the examination of eleven languages. It caused the author, already in debt, to sell copies by subscription -- making it probably the first book to be sold this way in England. Some copies contain a leaf entitled 'A catalogue and true note of the names of such persons which ... have receaved the Etymologicall dictionary'.
