I suppose I have always had a collector's instinct, my earlier interests having ranged from vinyl records to Isle of Man postal history, and my interest in old toys really began when I came across several Timpo Knights of the Round Table figures at a flea market one day and remembered having them as a child. Subsequently discovering Norman Joplin's Great Book of Hollow-cast Figures, I soon realised I was hooked. The movie and TV character figures were the initial attraction but I soon progressed to civilian figures in general as these seemed to reflect a bygone era. As the collection grew, the expansion into related toys became inevitable and vintage games, Pelham Puppets, Dan Dare and Muffin the Mule memorabilia were soon added. My wife, Dorcas, has been a great encouragement, particularly with her interest in antique teddy bears, and we have been fortunate in making some good friends, with the toy fairs becoming increasingly more like social events. Will I continue collecting? Probably. In fact, only the other day I came across some really nice tinplate..... Toys
