Jogesh Chandra Seal studied art at the Jubilee Art Academy, along with classmates Hemendranath Mazumdar and Atul Bose. Seal most often chose to depict Bengali women in rural settings, bearing influences from Mazumdar. Sir Rajender Prasad Mukhopadhya and the King of Bardwan offered his consistent patronage, although his promising career was tragically cut short when he died at the early age of thirty one.
