Lot Essay

This finely carved bowl and cover are very similar to a bowl and cover illustrated by Stanley C. Nott, Chinese Jades in the Stanley Charles Nott Collection, 1942, pp. 300-1, pl. LXV, no. 55. All aspects of the two are the same, except for the knop, which on the Nott example is solid and described as being carved on top with a shou character within a "wreath of sacred fungus".
