A LARGE FAMILLE VERTE CENSER

The censer raised on four feet issuing from monster masks, the lower sides carved with key-fret pattern in yellow on a green ground within foliate borders, separated from the pierced upper portion of the censer by a broad protruding flange decorated on the sides with diaper pattern and on top with foliate decoration, the canted sides of the cover also pierced with fretwork below a gilded buddhistic lion with pierced brocade ball

A very similar vessel is illustrated in the catalogue of the Exhibition of Chinese Arts, C. T. Loo & Co., New York, 1 November 1941 - 30 April 1942, no. 748. See, also, the related censer and cover decorated with solid and pierced taotie masks rather than the fretwork of the present censer, in the Qing Court Collection illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 38 - Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 94, no. 86.
