The body decorated with a continuous scene of boys at play: some riding hobby horses across a bridge, others holding umbrellas and lanterns, some lighting firecrackers, and some playing musical instruments, all between ruyi borders and below linked foliate and peach scrolls on the neck, which is flanked by a pair of blue dragon scroll handles and is painted in gilding on either side with shuang xi characters, interior and base enamelled a pale turquoise

The combination of the characters shuang xi ('double or wedded joy') and the decorative motif of the 'hundred boys', would have made this vase an appropriate gift for a wedding.

A nearly identical vase, now mounted as a lamp, is in the collection of Buckingham Palace, London, and visible in several World War II era published photographs of the British royal family.
