YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)
With deep rounded sides, the exterior painted with overlapping stems of yellow autumn kui (huangqiu kui) and rose, with a butterfly hovering nearby, with a tiny representation of each flower and a rose bud painted on the base of the interior

Lot Essay

Yellow autumn kui flowers are a member of the malvaceae family. They have a subtle fragrance and attractive foliage and were first represented in paintings beginning in the Song dyansty. The flower is sometimes identified as hibiscus or musk mallow.
