Details
Lying in Kemble, Gloucestershire (Octavian)
Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1970
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
Two capsules slightly damaged. Bin-soiled and glue-stained labels, one slightly damaged. Levels: six base of neck, three top and three upper-shoulder
In damaged original wooden case
Tasting Note: More than first rate. I recall it coming top in a blind tasting of '70s organised by a Danish wine journal in Bordeaux. I did manage to taste this in cask, April 1972. It clearly had a good future. 'Elegance' and perfect balance are dotted through my notesmost recently, soft, rich, delicious aftertaste. ***** (April 2002) M.B.
