The monumental original groups by Antoine Coysevox were finished around 1702 and have been at the entrance of the Tuileries Gardens in Paris since 1719. They were so admired that Louis XIV granted the sculptor, who was Director of the Academy of Painting and Sculpture at the time, the highest pension ever given an artist during his reign.
