The marble original of Cupid was exhibited by Etienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1761) at the Salon of 1757 and the plaster original of the Little girl hiding Cupid's bow, as it was titled, was exhibited at the Salon of 1761. Several models for candelabra were adapted from these originals, and the most similar to the present candelabra are found in The Wallace Collection in London (as illustrated in P. Hughes, The Catalogue of the Wallace Collection, London, 1996, Voll. III, No. 250 (F140-141))
