A Chinese blue and white wine cooler, late 18th century
the body of compressed globular form rising to the waisted neck with an everted lipped rim, applied with two moulded lion mask handles, supported on a splayed foot, the exterior painted with figures crossing a bridge towards a pavilion amidst trees and rockwork with a boat and an island with pagodas in the distance, below a 'Fitzhugh' border on both sides of the neck, the foot with floral scroll cartouches reserved on a diaper ground -- 15 9/16in. (39.5cm.) wide.
