Lot Essay

This group also known as Jiji and Gisella is one of Mêne's more celebrated works and was a very popular model. It was first exhibited in 1848 at the Salon in plaster, No. 93 in Mêne's Catalogue. Both models for this group also appear as single sculptures. See Jane Horswell, Les Animaliers p.123.
