The 'C couronné poinçon' was a tax mark employed on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749.
These elegant wall lights once formed part of the legendary collection formed by Robert Lehman (1891-1969) and his father Philip, a large part of which was generously donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, who describe it as "one of the most extraordinary private collections ever assembled in the United States". Originally housed in his town house on West 54th Street, the collection was truly comprehensive in scope, ranging from early Renaissance paintings to Post Impressionist and Fauvist works, as well as superb decorative arts including French 18th Century furniture, Venetian glass and Renaissance maiolica.
