Of quatrefoil serpentine form, the bowl bombé, each with frises riches border of shaded pink or green shells arranged in pairs alternate with blue enamel panels gilt with variant diaper patterns and suspending a garland of flowers, the button knop of the cover centering pink shaded shells overlapping seeded discs edged with gilt foliate scrolls and suspending a similar garland

For a very similarly decorated dessert service dated 1766 made for Louis-C©sar-Renaud, Vicomte de Choiseul and formerly in the collection of Alphonse de Rothschild, see Christie's, London, 17 April 2000, lot 89; also The Pompey Collection, Christie's, New York, 23 May 2002, lots 70 and 72 for similarly decorated plates.

Emeric-Joseph, marquis De Durfort-Civrac was a career diplomat: ambassador to Venice (September 1755-January 1760), to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (February-June 1760 and again April 1762-October 1765), to Austria from May 1766-May 1770.

Guillaume Nöel is recorded at Sèvres 1755-1800 as a painter specializing in flowers and in patterned decoration such as frises riches and frises colorées.
