Of squat globular form with burnished gold upright strap handle and roaring animal spout, the recessed cover with a burnished gold flattened button knop radiating lacy lappets, the flat shoulder gilt with a scalloped band alternately suspending harebells and stylized flowers edged below with gilt Vitruvian scrolls, painted in rich colours with a garland of flowers including peonies, tulips, roses and morning glories

Lot Essay

The present teapot and cover, from a déjeuner described in the factory records as decorated à guirlandes de fleurs frise d'or" (garlands of flowers and gilt decorative bands), delivered to M. Baudouin on 22 December 1828 (Registre Vbb 7, folio 54) but not entered into the saleroom records until the following day (Registre Vv 1, folio 346, no 45).
