Lot Essay

The present set of eight plates and those painted with fruit and nuts in the following lot were decorated in Paris by the eponymous firm of Jean Boyer, later joined by his son Charles Alfred Boyer. The family took over the firm of Feuillet in 1834, moving into their premises at 18, rue de la Paix and continuing the tradition of excellence in porcelain decoration.

For a part dessert service painted on the same blanks as the present set of plates but with birds on branches in landscape vignettes, the dark blue border gilt overall with vermiculé, see Sotheby's, London, 21 November 2000, lot 88.
