The first by Johann Niggus, Augsburg, 1781-1783, the second apparently unmarked except for a later dutch duty-mark of 1807, The Netherlands, second half 18th Century
Oval, plain sides with reeded lower and upper band, the reverse finely chased with a canon, canon balls, gunpowder barrel, sword and a flag surrounded by scrolling foliage and C-scrolls, the hinged cover chased with resting and smoking soldiers near a tent and barrels within and surrounded by C-scolls, marked on rim; the second with plain sides and reeded lower and upper band, the reverse and hinged cover each set with an oval carved ivory plaque, the reverse with cupids playing, the cover with Bacchus on a goat, Amor and cupids
