Lot Essay

The sitters in the present lot can be identified as Ernst Hendrik Baron van Ittersum nee van den Oosterhof (1780-1848) and his wife Johanna Philippina Wilhelmina nee barones van Westerholt (1797-1859). The portrait of E.H. was painted posthumous.

It has been suggested that the remaining two portraits are of their two surviving children Frederik Alexander and Louis Charlotte Elisabeth Marie.
