In the neoclassical style, with frontal grisaille portrait medallions, the reverse with grisaille coat-of-arms within the Danish Order of the Elephant, one depicting the Danish hero Niels Juel the other probably Cornelis Tromp, with sprays of natural flowers, with leaf handles, on square pedestal base, with domed covers (various damages)

Niels Juel (1629-1697) was a Danish admiral. He served with distinction during the Dano-Swedish Wars of 1658-60. In November 1675 he was appointed to the supreme command. He then won a European reputation, and raised Danish sea-power to unprecedented eminence, by the system of naval tactics, perfected by Michiel de Ruyter and afterwards by Horatio Nelson. On the 1st of June 1677 Juel defeated the Swedish admiral Sjoblad, this victory, besides permanently crippling the Swedish navy, gave the Danes a self-confidence which enabled them to keep their Dutch allies in their place. Under his energetic supervision the Danish navy ultimately reached imposing dimensions, especially after Juel became chief of the admiralty in 1683.
Cornelis Tromp (1629-1691), commander in chief of the Dutch and Danish navy, was knighted with the Order of the Elephant and made a Danish Count (Syllisborg) in 1671.
The Order of the Elephant is the highest order of Denmark. The order was instituted in its current form on the first of December 1693 by King Christian V.
