Kannelierte Deckelvase, in the neoclassical style, the fluted white-ground oviform body outlined in gilt, painted with two pale lilac-ground medallions reserved with grisaille portraits in profile, one with a Roman female head inscribed in purple with M.FULVIA. and the other with a male head inscribed in purple with TITUS.VESPAS., within tied laurel wreaths, the domed cover with gilt winged eagle holding a branch

Lot Essay

By family repute this vase was a present in 1791 from the Prussian envoy in the Dutch United Republic, Count von Arnim to Johan van Kerckhoff, born in Arnhem in 1743, shipbuilder and timber merchant in Amsterdam and furthermore influent member of the municipal council. The Van Kerckhoff family was also involved with the Arnhem faience industry. See E. Köllmann and M.
