Lot Essay

The first picture is based on Pieter Brueghel the Younger's iconic work in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, that is dated 1559 (inv. no. 1016). There are numerous versions, one of them sold at Christie's, London, 7 December 2006, lot 31. And the second is after Pieter Brueghel the Elder's famous composition in the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin.
