Lot Essay

The Jubiläumsservice of 1860 was ordered to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Meissen factory. It was composed of new forms which were to be displayed as part of a table decoration along side forms originally designed for the so-called Krönungsservice of 1733.
Ernst August Leuteritz was born in 1818 near Meissen. He was engaged as a modeller in 1846. From 1849 to 1886 he held the post of manager and top modeller. K. Berling, Meissen China, New York, 1972, p. 86 states 'During these many years he did great service to the factory by his extraordinary activity and skilfullness'.
