A LATE 17TH CENTURY NORWEGIAN SILVER PEG TANKARD,
MARK OF MICHEL OLSEN, BERGEN, CIRCA 1690,
Maker's mark only, struck twice to base, cylindrical body embossed & flat-chased with flowers, on three ball & claw feet, the thumbpiece modelled as a rampant lion supporting a ball in it's forepaws, handle engraved with a tulip & terminating in an escutcheon, cover embossed with a naked woman flanked by birds amidst scrolling foliage, centred by a disc engraved with wreath encircling initials "IP" over "PLD", base inscribed "W-67 Lod", 8 in. high (20 cm.), 29.5 oz.
