A WILLIAM IV PROVINCIAL SILVER PRESENTATION CUP & COVER,
MARK OF JOHN WALTON, NEWCASTLE, 1835,
Campana form, chased in low relief with trailing leafy vine which issues from the foliate scroll handles, the lower body with narrow band of shell motifs above chased primrose leaves & flowers, the pedestal foot with shell-decorated rim & border of flowers & scrolls, gilt interior, the cover also chased with a calyx of primrose leaves & flowers centred by an ovoid finial & edged with an acanthus leaf rim, the front engraved with a panoramic view of the Bishop Wearmouth iron works & a presentation inscription to Andrew White from the workmen, dated 1836, on his election to the first mayoralty of the borough of Sunderland under the Municipal Corporation Reform Act, 13 3/8 in. high (34 cm.), 52.5 oz.
