Lot Essay

This impressive cabinet, with richly scrolling mounts framing colourful lacquer panels, reflects, through its eclectic combination of styles in a grandiose scheme, the revived antiquarian interest in the 1830's and 1840's for the forms of the ancien régime. A closely related pair of Louis XIV cabinets, previously with Aveline, Paris, is illustrated in Jean-Marie Rossi 45 Ans de Passion, Paris, 2000, p. 60.
